Each year, 382,500 people experience sudden cardiac arrest. 9 out of 10 victims die; which is more than the number of individuals that die from AIDS, Alzheimer’s, assault with firearm, breast cancer, colon cancer, fire, motor vehicle accidents, prostate cancer and suicide combined. Chesapeake AED Services demonstrated Hands Only CPR to give local residents the power to save an important person in their lives.

Saturday February 2nd Chesapeake AED Services was in front of Macy’s in the Towson Town Center Mall from 11-2 PM  teaching Hands Only CPR to mall patrons. The Go Red for Women Weekend Celebration was sponsored by the American Heart Association and consisted of free blood pressure screenings, cooking demos, and Hands Only CPR demonstrations. The event was capped off by the Go Red fashion show adding to nutrition and fitness counseling, heart health information, and much much more.

The two most important efforts individuals can take to save someone in cardiac arrest are early defibrillation and early CPR. ₁ 89% of people who suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest die because they don’t receive immediate or early CPR. When you see and adult or teen collapse do two things, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. ₂ Some Studies have shown that Hands Only CPR if performed quickly and effectively can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival.
