There Are So Many AED’s So Which Brand Do I Choose?

Last Updated: October 17, 2019

Which Brand of AED Should I Choose?

There are many things to consider when implementing an AED Program.  In this and upcoming blogs, I will touch on most of the topics to consider before and after purchasing an AED.

Here at Chesapeake AED Services, we take special care to educate our clients on every aspect of implementing an AED Program.  We will guide you through the process and make recommendations based on your needs to properly implement an effective lifesaving AED program.

I hope these series of blogs is helpful and very informative.  If you would like more information, please check out our NEW website, for a complete resource of information or feel free to give us a call.

In our last blog we discussed the general cost of maintenance of AED’s and what you should do to maintain your unit.  I briefly mentioned the low cost of owner ship of our Life Pak CR Plus.  Today, I would like to discuss our brand overall and what to look for when choosing an AED distributor.

There are many different AED manufacturers on the market today.  The owner of Chesapeake AED Services is a 25 year veteran paramedic who has used defibrillators and then Automated External Defibrillators.  He was involved with the first pilot program of AED’s in the state of Maryland.

We are so confident in the Physio Control LifePak line of AED’s that they are the only brand we recommend.  Physio Control Life Pak AED’s have many features and advantages.  Every product, Physio develops and sells is clinically validated and backed by science.  Some features present in many other devices may not be present in our devices.  This is because scientific research has or has not proven that those features do not have any impact on the survival rate or overall AED effectiveness.

Physio Control, headquartered in Redmond, WA, is the world leader  in developing, manufacturing, and has defined the standard of cardiac emergency care equipment for more than 55 years.  Dr. Karl William Edmark founded Physio-Control Corporation in 1955.

Today, Physio Control is the only one of the top four external defibrillation manufacturers with U.S. based ownership.  The Life Pak defibrillators have been used in more medical emergencies than any other manufacturer’s defibrillators.  Eight out of the Top 10 largest cities in the U.S. use Life Pak defibrillators.  They are solely focused on creating emergency medical technologies.
There are many brands of AED’s on the market today ranging in cost and features.

You can now understand our reasoning behind being an exclusive Physio Control distributor.  In choosing an AED vendor you should consult with your local EMS to see which brand of AED they recommend and why.  Look for and ask the following questions regarding an AED manufacturer to better understand which AED to purchase :

  • Reputation of the AED manufacturer for product quality and customer service
  • Compatibility with the equipment of local EMS
  • Vendor can provide complete implementation solutions or maintenance and or compliance programs

In closing, we discussed what to look for when choosing an AED manufacturer.  Last week we covered the overall cost of ownership of AED’s and the on-going maintenance as well as maintenance programs vs. compliance programs.

Stay tuned next week’s blog topic: How many AED’s will I need? Training requirements and Promoting your AED Program within your facility. For more information regarding Physio Control, please check out their website: http://www.physio-control.com/AboutUs.aspx
